I am amazed how many have Valencia in their team. For me, he still has everything to prove - he has done very little so far.

I agree with most of that. Especially the hopefully we can see both part, better to have too many strikers than the too few we have had quite often in the last few year.
A regular problem on here is that people don't like a player and so big up his competition without much evidence. The Diame/Noble situation from one poster is the classic example.
I just have not seen enough from Valencia yet. And I stress, yet.

The players are interchangable BUT the formation MUST be either
4 - 1 - 4 -1 or 4 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 2
This 4 - 2 - 3 - 1 is simply not working for us

It was Valencia's first season at a new club, in a new league, in a new continent. He was hit and miss which could be due to a number of things but he certainly showed glimpses of different attributes that will benefit the team.
I think he offers more than Carroll. Will be good to have both fit so we can find out.

That has been the major improvement for me this year.
Last year the bench made me cringe with all too often literally no one that could come on an change the game.
Now we have a subs that don't wekan the team and can actually get me excited when they come on... or at least not sigh

So he you are saying can't play on the wing and he can't play as a centre forward. Really limits his options doesn't it?
His best work and how I would like see him used at times is pressing as a wide forward in the diamond. But even doing that he scored less goals than Carroll in a similar number of games. He played alone, he played with Sakho, he played wide, he played with Cole, he played with Carroll, he still scored less than a player you like to run down. Full stop.
You can call the old manager names all you want to deflect but there nothing from last year that indicates that at this point Valencia is able to play as a lone striker with success. Payet and Lanzini should make him better I agree but you can say the same thing about Carroll, who has proved it more in the Premier League.

I don't think 'first 11' exists anymore, so try not to get caught up in all that. But I do like the look of the following team..........

I would be equally happy to see Kouyate, Lanzini, Moses, Antonio and Tomkins start.
It's a squad game these days and as we are, our's has to be pne of our best ever.

Polite, you do realise he was a right winger in Mexico? Hardly playing out of position at all.
Even if he was played out of position, it doesn't make a player fall over a lot, and dribble into people all the time.
He did do all right in a front two, helping close people down, puts the defence under pressure playing a high line. I don't think we'll play like that now though.
When he played up front on his own QPR away for example, he had a stinker. Just offered nothing.

He was played out of position by fatty quite a bit and also when played as a striker we still played as if he were Carroll which even you will understand is not the way to get the best from him.
Playing in a team with the likes of Payet/Moses/Lanzini/Zarate/Antonio behind him feeding him and you'll see the best got out of him.
Sadly our previous manager was too thick to see that.

If that is a response (excuse) directed at my point is a pretty weak one, Valencia played plenty as a forward last year (including on his own when Carroll and Sakho were injured)

It's a nice problem to have when you can just forget about a player who has been excellent thus far this season.

Nah, because he aint that good. Falls over a lot. Hardly does anything. Shrugged off easily. Carroll is a better forward. Lanzini Payet Moses better wingers. Zarate better football brain.

Very tough to leave out Noble, Tomkins and Lanzini, to be honest. Each of them is definitely worth their place, which is a gerat problem to have. Can't really consider Carroll at the moment due to lack of matches/fitness.
